Using the ELA/Literacy Common Core State Standards to Teach (3 Credits)

This course is designed to assist teachers in developing a deeper understanding of how the CCSS were written, what they mean, and most importantly how to use them to prepare students for the 21st century. We’ll delve into the shifts that are imperative to the implementation of the CCSS, as well as the necessary strategies required to do so. The Smarter Balance Assessment will be examined, and vehicles of preparation will be visited and developed in class. Students will know who’s who in the field of literacy education, along with websites that will make life as an educator of the CCSS easier and more fulfilled. A collection of best practice engagement strategies, formative assessments, and read alouds will be compiled. Most suitable for Kindergarten - 8th grade teachers
