Myth vs. Reality: Looking at the Special Needs Spectrum (3 Credits)

Teachers invite students of all abilities into their classrooms. This course assists educators in meeting the special needs of students through an overview of abilities/disabilities. The course looks at needs reflected in today’s classrooms such as Autism, ADHD/ADD, and other areas that impact the learning environment. The use of technology and computers as a resource will be emphasized; therefore, access to the Internet during the course will be a central part to the class activities. Guest speakers will include parents, advocates, and professionals who work with children of varying abilities/disabilities. Special education program visits will also be included in the course.
