Creative Reading Strategies and Book Publishing (3 Credits)

Learn how to integrate reading strategies across the curriculum while using the alternative assessment of book publishing. Participants will be introduced to a variety of reading strategies and ideas on using them in all content areas. Teachers will have a hands-on experience in the making of a pop-up book, book in a box, book on a stick, and a Japanese poem fan book. Abundant materials and classroom instructional ideas will be provided for the making of books that can be used as exemplars for your class. During this session, participants will also visit a publishing facility for additional ideas. This course is open to all grade level teachers.
